国际社会总是处在不断发展变化之中。当代国际社会的一个重要特点，是形形色色的国际组织的存在与发展，并对人类生活的各个领域产生着深刻的影响。正如研究国际前沿问题的学者们指出的，“21世纪将是国际组织的世纪”。可以这样说，当今世界上任何全球性或区域性重大问题的处理，如果没有相关国际组织的参与，难以获得圆满的解决；而一个国家的对外交往技能是否娴熟，一个政府的对外政策是否成熟，极为重要的衡量标准就在于其对国际组织的理解和参与程度。国际组织不仅与我们所处时代的基本特征、国家的形象地位等紧紧联系在一起，甚至与我们每个人的生活丝丝相扣、息息相关。

        本课程旨在从国际政治和国际关系的角度来认识和理解国际组织这一国际社会日益重要的新兴角色，重点把握有关国际组织的基本知识、理论观点以及重要事实，理解国际组织在国际社会中的运行和特点、作用及影响；在此基础上，深入认识中国与国际组织互动关系的过去、现在与未来。

‘21st century is the century of international organizations.’ The purpose of this course is to explore both the theory and the practice of international organizations and familiarize the students with the study of international organizations. We will examine why they were created, how they are organized and what they try to accomplish. Broadly speaking, the study of international organizations focuses on the question of how members of the international community organize themselves cooperatively to address issues of mutual concern. The course will focus on UN, WTO, IMF, WB, other international organizations. By the end of the semester, students should be familiar with the role of international organizations in the world system as well as with the analytical tools (theories) used to analyze them.
